Samsara - A tibetan heritage
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama welcomes a group of Tibetans, who have recently fled from their homeland, occupied by the Chinese, to Dharamsala, seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile : " Welcome to this free country ! . . . Meet- ing you gives me great joy ... The really important thing is that a future liberated Tibet will became a truly free, democratic country. This is the greatest wish of all of us who live in Tibet or in exile !”
Pema Gyalpo, a young monk from Dharamsala, visits the Sherpas of Eastern Nepal - “those from the East” -- whose ancestors lived, until the beginning of the 16th century, in Kham, one of the Eastern provinces of Tibet. Tangboche and Thami, the two most important monasteries of the Khumbu region near Mount Everest, are goals of his travels.
The young abbot of Thami provides detailed information about the death of Lama Tundu, his predeccesor. The search for his reincarnation in 1958 led across Tesi Lapcha, a mountain-pass of more than 19.000 feet, to the remote Sherpa village of Beding, near the base of Gaurisankar, a sacred mountain. Unusual signs, a woman's dream and certain prophesies pointed to a small boy, who had to pass a series of prescribed tests before he was positively identified as the true incarnation of Lama Tundu.
